With the warmer days becoming more frequent, you may notice some changes in your pets, whatever the species. The most common is amongst pets who are not neutered…spring and a young pets fancy turns to love to paraphrase Tennyson!
This can see increased interest in the other sex. With this comes territorial behaviour changes, marking their own patch, barking increasing, cats spraying, rabbits thumping. Longer daylight can stimulate activity as pets spend more time outdoors, it can trigger hormonal changes and in turn heightened excitement and exaggerated traits which are not normally a problem.
However, even neutered animals can still change a little during spring. Some, like us, are sensitive to pollens and allergies. It’s a season to moult and shed coats too so you may need to brush your pet more frequently. Spring bulbs/flowers are a joy to look at, but be aware some are toxic to pets, dogs who like to dig and chew can be particularly susceptible.
