Cat Neutering

There are three ways to neuter your cat through the RSPCA. You can take your cat to one of the four vets participating using your Own Transport (this must be booked via us).

We can provide transport to one of the vets we use, however we prioritise the elderly and less able.

Alternatively you can take your cat to your own vet and use one of our Vet Vouchers.

If you are able to provide your own transport or a voucher at your own vets, we strongly recommend this as there is a waiting list of up to four weeks for RSPCA Transport.

Take a look at our Neutering Facts for some important information and common questions before the operation. Please note that we are only able to offer this service to those living in our Branch Area.

Own Transport

We can help anyone who lives in our branch area with the cost of neutering their cat for £30.

You don’t have be on benefits but you must have your own transport and live in this branches area.

Conditions apply:

  1. Payment by cash or cheque only (no electronic payment available)
  2. Please make sure you can pop into us at Hyson Green Mon-Fri 9am to 4.30pm to pay or have a valid cheque book.
  3. No operation will be booked until payment is received.
  4. Maximum of 3 ops per household (if you have more than 3 pets, we can only do 3 animals per house)

PLEASE NOTE: This procedure is subsidised for a ROUTINE neuter/spay operation and initial painkiller. You may incur further costs not included eg:

  1. Further pain relief should the vet feel it’s necessary (not needed for all pets).
  2. Buster collar.
  3. Special food.
  4.  If your pet has a complication, including but not exclusive to pregnancy, hernia or retained testicle, you will have to pay the added cost direct to the vets.

Cat Neutering Vet Voucher

If you would like to use your own vet we can send you a voucher for the following amounts to be used as part of the payment for the operation. You will be required to provide the remainder of the payment directly to your vet.

  • Cat – £10

The only requirement to receive a voucher is that you live in our Branch Area. Once you have spoken to your vet about the operation, fill in the vet voucher form to request a voucher which will be sent in 3-5 working days. Give this voucher to your vet along with the remainder of the payment. Vouchers can be used at any vet excluding the PDSA and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, discount or charity voucher.

We will only send three vouchers per household. If you have more than one animal you want to neuter, please give us more details in the additional information box i.e. species, sex and age.

We have listed the most common species we are asked to contribute payment for neutering. However, if your vet is willing to neuter another small pet, we will assist with a voucher. You will be responsible for getting your animal to your vet and any additional charges incurred.

RSPCA Transport

We can help with transporting your cat to the vets for neutering. However, we do prioritise the elderly and less mobile. The donation for RSPCA Transport to neuter your animal is £35. PLEASE NOTE: This is for a routine operation only.

Our waiting list for RSPCA Transport is around 4 weeks (longer at certain times).

There needs to be somone at the pick up address between 2pm and 4pm on two consecutive days. You don’t need to have your cat in a basket, we will bring our own, but they do have to be detained indoors. There is also no need to starve your cat, this will be done at the vet but please do not feed them for two hours prior to pick up (this avoids them being sick on the journey to the vets).

The £35 donation is to be paid in full on collection. Operations are Mon to Wed only.

If your cat is found to have another veterinary condition or problem, then we reserve the right to refuse neutering and you will be expected to cover any extra costs incurred, for example ear mites or an unknown pregnancy.

If you are able to provide your own transport, we strongly recommend this as the waiting list can be up to four weeks for RSPCA Transport.
